Mac Geehan is a Donegal name, often written Mageean. Another Geehan family comes from Roscommon, where the name sometimes is rendered as Guihan or Guiheen. A branch of this family also was established in Kerry. Another variant is Gahan, which is found mainly in Wexford and Wicklow in southeast Ireland.

All of these names derive from the Irish Mac Gaoithín or O Gaoithín.Gaoithín is derived from gaoth, which means "wind." The "ín" ending means the name prob-ably means " a little wind," "breeze" or "puff of wind."

Peter, listed at age 17 in the census register below, was very likely married to Bridget Kirrane and is our Patrick/Park's father (himself father to Lawrence, above). If so, Peter and Bridget also had a second son named James P., whose wife's name was Esther.

Our Patrick/Park was born in 1886 in Tunstall at the Audley Street address listed below. As three family members cite Ireland as their birthplace, we can deduce that our branch of the family came to England from Ireland sometime between 1861 and 1864. (The oldest child, Mary, was born in Ireland, but the second oldest child, Peter, was born in England.)
